Marriage Green Card

What is Marriage Green Card?

A Marriage Green Card is for the spouse of a U.S. citizen or green card holder who is already in the U.S. This process is also known as Adjustment of Status.

Spouse of a U.S. Citizen: The process is faster. The U.S. citizen can file a petition for their spouse, and the spouse can apply for a green card while staying in the U.S. They can apply for work and travel permits along with their green card application and are allowed to stay in the U.S. while waiting for the case decision.

Spouse of a Green Card Holder: The process is slower. The green card holder can file a petition, but the spouse may need to wait for a visa to become available because there are limits on how many green cards are given to spouses of permanent residents. Once a visa is available, the spouse can apply for a green card.
